Our
congregation is a part of the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ). This is an American born
denomination with origins in the early 19th century American
Frontier. Since their beginning, the Disciples of Christ
have endeavored to increase respect, understanding and unity
among believers in Jesus Christ. As Disciples, we strive
to follow the teachings of Jesus and the New Testament by
practicing a faith that is socially relevant and intellectually
sound. Members are bound together in fellowship and service
by belief in the central confession of the New Testament: "That
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew
16:16). On other matters, the church recognizes each member's
right to exercise freedom of opinion. This principle is a
sustaining force in the life of the church. We hold that
there should be "in essentials, unity; in opinion, liberty;
and in all things, love."
The
membership of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) reflects
freedom and diversity in worship, in service and in fellowship. In
Worship... prayer and
devotion are a Christian's greatest source of strength. There
are no set doctrines or uniform rules, so individuals can discover
the methods that suit them the best.
In
Service... God has given
each Christian unique gifts and talents. The church offers numerous
and varied opportunities to put these gifts and talents to use
locally, nationally and worldwide. In
Fellowship... church
members join together in many ways; sharing each other's joys
and sorrows, and helping each other follow Christ's way in every
area of daily life.

The
Red Chalice
Our symbol is a red chalice and signifies the centrality of the Lord's Supper
in our worship. The communion cup reminds us of the covenant of love, which
binds us to God and to one another. The chalice bears a white St. Andrew's
cross, the national cross of Scotland, homeland of many founders of the Christian
Church (Disciples of Christ). Tradition tells us that St. Andrew was dedicated
to the important roles of evangelism and of the laity in the church. Disciples
also emphasize these views. The red color stands for dedication, enthusiasm
and willingness to sacrifice in service to Jesus.
